A Big Night Out

Our raid master Lance said we start raiding at the end of January, time to dust off the brain and plan for the big reveal.

When Is the Big Night and Am I Invited?!

Find out, block out your diary and get ready for the big night.

OMG I’ve Got Nothing to Wear!

Find a pre-Naxx gear list you like and start picking the low hanging fruit from the Tree of WoWness.

Research BoE items on Thottbot and the AH, find out where they drop and how much they cost. Levelling crafters often sell at a loss, so look up the materials before you craft or commission anything. I saved 180g by buying the Hat of Wintry Doom, rather than crafting it.

Ask for a guild run to get boss drops.

Looking Lovely on the Night

Enchants and Buffness

Unless you’re hopelessly well-to-do don’t drop too much loot on buffing something that’ll be gone in a snap. But if it’s good – splash out. Think about how long the item will last and spend appropriately.

Enchant armor and weapons. Entry level Lich King enchants can be pretty cheap. Don’t forget stones and oils, etc for weapons. Legs take armor and spellthreads made by crafters.

To get enchants on your helm and shoulders, some faction will have to virtually want your babies. Find out who they are and start sucking up to them. Most of them let you buy their tabards, when you wear the tabard in level 80 dungeons you earn their reputaton.

With a Little Help From my Friends

Addons make it so much easier, make sure you have Diamond Threat Meter and something like Deadly Boss Mods. Also install the latest GEM so you can keep up with scheduled events.

Bring A Plate

Food: if you can’t or won’t cook, farm the ingredients and talk sweetly to someone who can. Or get a takeaway on the AH.

Potions and Elixirs: Potion use is restricted within an encounter, no more chuffing mana pots to get though long fights.

Dance the Night Away

Work out your best moves, class forums often have useful information on attack and heal rotations.

Read up on boss strategies and remember, although the raid leader may not always be correct, he will always be right :p

Gear Wishlists

My latest gearfinder link is very simple and easy to use. I spend far too long agonising over gear and this neat tool helps me puzzle things out.

Just go to gear wishlist and enter your character name and realm. It searches wowhead, maxdps and lootrank for your class and spec and comes up with a list of items for each slot.

I'm sure it's not definitive but it will certainly help you shortlist upgrades, locate useful quest items and help decide whether an item is a true upgrade.

It uses the defaults on each of these sites and recommends that power users should go direct to them if they want to tweak the weightings to suit.

Bingo

Be imba!

Echoing what Annette said Be imba helps you to know where you may be able to improve your gear, and where you lack enchants or gems etc.

Interesting to make the analysis

Am I ready for Kara?

Well, maybe :-)

Even if you're not, we might call on you for the early part of Kara, because being a small guild we can't always be too choosy.

But we do need you to gear up so you can be useful to the raid. So here's a link to Ten Ton Hammer's guide on the stats you need to start Kara. See where you stand and identify your weak points, this then becomes your target for gear. If you don't know what gear will help you make the shortfall, talk to someone with the experience to help you decide.

And remember, bring potions, food, bandages, oils, sharpening stones, etc etc to help you narrow the gap. If you can't cook, at least find out what food you need and farm the mats for a guildie to make it. Better still, skill up your cooking!

Some healy comments

Now guys, I love you like, well heck my brother's a bastard so, brothers!

But its a bit tiresome being made to feel I am some sort of ogre about the ressing/running back situations. It's always been very standard in groups I have played with. So what is usual in Kara:

a) die in a boss fight dont release, wait and see if a res is possible and to make sure you see LOOT
b) die in a trash fight in LOWER castle, run back, you might be able to help and avoid a wipe
c) trash fight upper castle you can take your chances on a res, you'll probably get one.
d)In upper castle if there is an autores or a soulstone available then dont release, faster to res the group up. So check if there is an res available before you release, you are hard to find once you have released. It is often better to save SS or autores for a boss fight wipe than a trash wipe, negotiate that at the time.

If not run back quickly, we have too much down time, and should be going much faster

e) If resser is running back, then you should be too - one of the biggest frustrations for ressers is to make their way back to upper castle and find multiple people whove gone off for coffee/telly/cuppa/comfy chair dead waiting to be resed. That all takes much more time. Ressers get pissed off.
Healing is a job in which there's little down time, like tanking. We, that is all of us, need some short bios, like 5 mins, more regularly than we have been.

As I say, its pretty standard, please stop the sarcasm I am coming to dislike it. Not that I dislike you. I come because I really like helping and playing

Here is a suggestion for the guild tabard...

Guild Tabard Generator

We're redesigning the guild tabard. Have a go yourself on the Guild Tabard Generator and see my suggestions below.

At this stage we're just trying to get the icon right, but we think the end product is likely to be dark and ... shadowy...

Antiarc's WoW Armory Tools

Leading on from my last post, there are other guild tools/generators on Antiarc's page, including a tradeskill listing generator, guild class statistics comparison, reputation/faction comparison, arena team comparison, and a SIG Image generator!

Here's the guild class statistic comparison.

Note these are all based on the Armory data, which stores what you were wearing when you last logged out.

Heroic keys and why you need them - plus guild report

I found a tool on MMO Champion that allows you to see how your guild members are progressing in obtaining their heroic keys.

I set the report to run for all characters at level 30 and above, so it's also a useful list of Shadow Dancers toons that have been played for some time (although not all of them have been played for a while, heh). Here's the report.

Now if you're playing a toon at level 60 plus, and you plan to raid with us in Kara, you should really start doing some heroics to get the right gear and practice. To run a heroic, you need the key to the heroic instance, and to get the key, you need to get the appropriate faction up, so you can buy it from the faction's quartermaster.

Have a look at the list on the link above and see what factions you are missing. Check out the Outland and Lower City factions in wowwiki or wowhead to review the faction rewards and help you prioritise which factions are a priority for your class and professions. (You should be aiming to get all these factions up to at least honoured.)

Let the guild know what you need and start setting up GEM runs!

Arena Series 4

The new Arena season has started, which means all arena teams points are reset to 1500. The good news is that's 300 points more than The Shadow Dancers had at the end of Season 3! The bad news is that a vicious swathe of uber teams are now on the same rating as us and for the next few weeks we will be slaughtered mercilessly while they regain their normal rankings.

You may not think you're cut out for being cut up into fricasee every week, but really - even if you only turn up for 4 games a week, and you lose EVERY ONE, you should gain enough points to get some hot gear. You will also find your reflexes sharpen up, which is bound to save your and my cute little ass some day.

Season 4 introduced a requirement for players to achieve a minimum arena rating before they could buy the top items but that still leaves the Brutal Gladiator off-hand and gloves up for grabs and a nice collection of Epic gems.

Season 2 Merciless Gladiator gear is now available for honour points, so if arena is just too much to consider, try hanging out in the battlegrounds instead.

Check out WOW Insider for all the details and links you could want on arena. And have a look here to see Season 3 3v3 experts in action.

Gearing your class

I'm going to keep adding to this as I find useful links:

Kaliban's Class Loot is very helpful for all classes, it handily sorts loot by quest zone/ instance /rep rewards /pvp arena etc plus has a gear planner. Love it.

Warlocks
The Warlock's Den has a great guide for gearing warlocks from levels 20 -70. An awesome resource.

Resto Druids

The word is, don't be ashamed to take cloth if it's better!

The Druid Wikispace has an comprehensive list of healing druid gear. It starts with lists of best gear items in the game, then provides a progression list.
